West Seneca Invitational


St. Joe’s Cross Country

As the first race of the season came, St. Joe’s was one of the big names across the board for the day. The Marauders headed out to Sunshine Park in West Seneca to challenge the strong teams from both Section V as well as Section VI.

            The JV team had a very impressive day finishing 1st in their race. The team was led by Junior Nick Courtney with a 4th place finish, followed closely by Senior Charlie Grochowiak with a 5th place finish. Rounding out the top 5 included Pat Murray (Jr), Drew Goss (So), and Alex Cambria (So).

            The final race of the day was also the most exciting. The large school varsity boy’s race went off. The Marauders had a strong race to finish in 3rd place, ahead of rival Canisius (6th place). The team was led by Freshman Anthony Belfatto (17:30), followed closely by Senior Connor Tumiel (17:36). Rounding out the top 5 included Justin Benzino (Sr), Cornell Overfield (Jr), and JD McGuire (Jr). Joe Suhay and Joe Goergen also had strong showings. The entire team finished within 45 seconds of Anthony.
            Next, the Marauders head down to Genesee Valley Park to take on 10,000 other runners at the McQuaid Invitational.
